It was erected in 1963, while Bourguiba was still alive, in the contemporary Arab-Muslim style. The structure is flanked by two 25-meter-tall minarets and capped by a golden dome sandwiched between two green domes. Tunisian art may be seen in the tomb entry gate and the gate that divides it from the remainder of the cemetery.
