First Day:
Arriving in Cairo around 9:00 am, the first stop is the Egyptian Museum. Known as the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities or the Museum of Cairo, it houses a vast collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. With 120,000 items, a significant portion is on display while the rest are stored. Constructed in 1901 by the Italian firm Garozzo-Zaffarani and designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon, it is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, it remains open to the public, but in 2020, it will be replaced by the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.
Pyramids of Giza - The Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. These structures were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site also features several cemeteries and remnants of a workers’ village. The Great Pyramid and the Pyramid of Khafre are the largest pyramids constructed in ancient Egypt and have long been symbols of ancient Egypt in Western culture. The Great Pyramid was listed by Antipater of Sidon as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, being the oldest and the only one still in existence.
Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx of Giza, often called the Sphinx of Giza or simply the Sphinx, is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with a lion’s body and a pharaoh’s head. It faces directly from west to east and is situated on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt.
Alexandria
Montazah Gardens - At 4:00 am, the journey to Alexandria begins with a private transfer, starting with the Montazah Garden Palace. Montaza Palace (Arabic: قصر المنتزة‎) is a palace, museum, and expansive gardens located in the Montaza district of Alexandria, Egypt. It is built on a low plateau east of central Alexandria, overlooking a beach on the Mediterranean Sea.
Ancient Roman Amphitheater - The Roman Amphitheatre is one of Alexandria’s most renowned monuments. As Egypt’s second most important city after Cairo, Alexandria boasts this unique structure. While amphitheaters were common in countries like Greece, Italy, and Turkey during Roman times, the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria is the only one of its kind in Egypt.
Kayetbai - The Citadel of Qaitbay (or the Fort of Qaitbay) (Arabic: قلعة قايتباي‎) is a 15th-century defensive fortress located on the Mediterranean Sea coast in Alexandria, Egypt. Established in 1477 AD (882 AH) by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa’it Bay, the Citadel is positioned on the eastern side of the northern tip of Pharos Island at the entrance of the Eastern Harbour.
Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi - The Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque (Arabic: جامع أبو العباس المرسي‎) is an Egyptian mosque in Alexandria. It is dedicated to the 13th-century Murcian Andalusi Sufi saint Abul Abbas al-Mursi, whose tomb it houses. Located in the Anfoushi neighborhood near the Citadel of Qaitbay, the mosque was redesigned and constructed in its current form by Eugenio Valzania and Mario Rossi between 1929 and 1945, heavily influenced by the architecture of Old Cairo.
Bibliotheca Alexandrina - The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (English: Library of Alexandria; Egyptian Arabic: مكتبة الإسكندرية‎ Maktabat El-Iskandarīyah) is a prominent library and cultural center on the Mediterranean Sea shore in Alexandria, Egypt. It serves as a tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria and aims to revive the brilliance of this historic center of learning. The idea to revive the old library emerged in 1974, with a plot selected by Alexandria University for its new library. Construction began in 1995, and after an investment of approximately $220 million, the complex was officially opened on October 16, 2002. In 2010, the library received a donation of 500,000 books from the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), making it the sixth-largest Francophone library in the world.
