- Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi - Designed by British architect John Elliott (WATG architects) in collaboration with Reza Rahmanian (HDC Architects), the hotel showcases a delightful blend of Islamic architectural elements such as balance, geometry, proportions, rhythm, and hierarchical emphasis, creating a cohesive design. The grand dome, adorned with intricate geometrical patterns, stands out among 114 smaller domes across the building. The building’s color is intended to mirror the various shades of sand found in the Arabian Desert. Construction began in December 2001, with interior fit-out works completed by Depa Interiors, Abu Dhabi, and the hotel opened in February 2005.
