Arrival in Ghana

Accra - Upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport, travelers will proceed through airport formalities via the immigration system. They will be greeted at the arrival area, board our bus, and head directly to a restaurant for a welcome meal, either dinner or lunch, depending on the time of arrival.

Briefings will be kept short to allow guests to check in and settle for the night.

Explore Accra

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park - The exploration of Accra begins shortly after breakfast. The itinerary includes visits to Independence Square, the National Museum, and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the final resting place of Ghana’s first president.

W.E.B. DuBois Center - The next stop is the W.E.B. DuBois Memorial Centre.

This center is where Dr. DuBois, an academic and civil rights leader, spent his last two years working on a Pan African encyclopedia at the invitation of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. A guided tour of his historical research library will be provided.

Makola Market - Following the tour, the group will visit Makola Market, the largest open market in Accra, where they can interact with women traders and shop for cloth and local items.

The tour will then proceed to the Art Centre, a large arts and crafts market featuring handicrafts from across Ghana and West Africa, offering an opportunity to practice bargaining skills. The group will return to the hotel before dark for relaxation and will experience the nightlife in the evening.

Depart Accra to Elmina

Assin Manso - The day begins with an early morning departure from the hotel in Accra, heading to the historically significant coastal community of Elmina, approximately a 4-hour drive.

This area was one of the first sites of European settlement in West Africa. En route, the group will visit the Assin Manso Slave Market, where slaves were held. Located less than a hundred kilometers from where slave ships docked at Cape Coast and Elmina, captives were encamped for their last bath in African waters at a river known as “Donko Nsuo,” or Slave River.

A healing tour will be conducted to reconnect with ancestors.

After the tour, the group will drive to the hotel to relax and reflect on the day’s activities.

In the evening, an African drumming and dance performance by the Akomapa dance group will be enjoyed.

Renaming Ceremony

Elmina - The day includes a visit to a community in Elmina for a Naming Ceremony.

The group will meet with the Chief and elders of the community, who will welcome them by pouring libation, a traditional greeting. Participants will receive a local Ghanaian name and become part of the community.

Elmina Castle - Following the ceremony, the group will visit Elmina and Cape Coast Slave Dungeon to see the historical slave dungeon and the “door of no return.”

Kakum National Park - The itinerary includes a visit to Kakum National Park, which protects a rainforest area home to endangered mammals such as forest elephants, bongo antelopes, and primates like the Diana monkey.

The park is rich in butterflies and birds, including African grey parrots and hornbills. The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, offers treetop views of the forest.

The group will return to the hotel for rest and relaxation.

Depart Elmina to Kumasi (School Visit)

Adanwomase - After breakfast, the group will depart from the hotel and head to Kumasi, one of Ghana’s largest cities, approximately a 5-hour drive. A stop will be made at a local school for interactions with pupils, presentation of donations, and class observations.

The visit includes Adawomase Kente Village, known for its colorful Ghanaian traditional fabric, Kente, worn on important occasions and celebrations. Much of the Kente cloth seen in Ghanaian markets originates from Kumasi.

A visit to a Cocoa Farm is planned, where the group will tour one of Ghana’s oldest and finest cocoa farms.

Participants will observe daily practices on the farm and learn about rural life in Ghana, including local cuisine. Unique cocoa products not found elsewhere will also be showcased.

The group will check into the hotel for relaxation after a long and eventful day.

Kumasi City Tour

Manhyia Palace Museum - After breakfast, the day will be spent exploring the city. The itinerary includes a visit to the historical Manhyia Palace Museum, the seat of the Asantehene of Asanteman and his official residence.

Okomfo Anokye Sword Site - The tour continues to the Cultural Centre and the Sword Monument of Okomfo Anokye, where modern art can be discovered in a clean and comfortable museum setting.

Kejetia Market - The next destination is Kejetia Market, West Africa’s busiest and largest open-air market. Participants will have the chance to interact with women traders and shop for cloth and local items, with an opportunity to practice bargaining skills.

The group will return to the hotel before dark for relaxation.

In the evening, the nightlife in Kumasi will be experienced.

Depart Kumasi to Accra

Accra - After breakfast, the group will depart Kumasi for Accra.

Upon check-in, the rest of the day is free for personal activities.

Akosombo

Odumase Krobo - The day begins with a departure shortly after breakfast to Akosombo, about a 2-hour drive. En route, a visit to Cedi Beads is planned, where glass bottles are recycled into beads.

Lunch will be followed by a Boat Cruise on the world’s largest man-made lake, offering a side view of Ghana’s hydro-electric Dam.

The group will return to Accra, aiming to reach the hotel before dark.

Nightlife will be experienced in the evening.

Beach Day/Last Dinner

Accra - The day will start with a later departure from the hotel to the beach, where the entire day will be spent relaxing. Horseback riding enthusiasts will have the opportunity to ride.

The last dinner in Ghana will be enjoyed, reflecting on the trip.

The dress code is African attire.

Last Day in Ghana

Kotoka International Airport - On the final day in Ghana, rest and relaxation at the hotel are planned.

A visit to Accra Mall for shopping will precede the departure to the airport.
