Addis Ababa - On the first full day in Addis Ababa, enjoy a city tour to quickly explore the city’s highlights. The tour includes visits to the National Museum of Ethiopia, the Ethnological Museum, Holy Trinity and St. George’s Cathedrals, and Entoto Mountain.
In the evening, dine at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant to savor local cuisine and experience Ethiopia’s unique dance style.
National Museum of Ethiopia - The main attraction at the National Museum of Addis Ababa is the remains of ‘Lucy,’ a collection of fossilized bones from a hominid of the Australopithecus afarensis species, who lived in Ethiopia 3.2 million years ago.
Ethnological Museum - Located in Haile Selassie’s former palace and surrounded by the beautiful gardens and fountains of Addis Ababa University’s main campus, the Ethnological Museum is captivating. Even those who aren’t typically museum enthusiasts will find it worthwhile, as it is one of Africa’s finest museums.
Holy Trinity Cathedral - Known in Amharic as Kidist Selassie, Holy Trinity Cathedral is the highest-ranking Orthodox cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was built to commemorate Ethiopia’s liberation from Italian occupation and is the second most important place of worship in Ethiopia, after the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum.
St. George’s Orthodox Cathedral was constructed by Italian prisoners of war defeated at Adwa in 1896. It was named after St. George, as the church’s Tabot (Ark) was carried to the Battle of Adwa against the Italians, where the Ethiopians achieved victory.
Mount Entoto - Entoto Mountain is where King Menelik attempted to establish a capital city in 1881. Notable sites at Entoto include a church museum near St. Mary’s Church and King Menelik’s old house.
