Lalibela

Lalibela - Day 03 Gondar - Lalibela
Fly to Lalibela with Ethiopian Airlines. Discover the awe-inspiring rock-hewn churches, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This collection of eleven monolithic churches was carved directly into the stone mountainside over 800 years ago. The site features the world’s largest monolithic church, a network of passageways and tunnels, intricately carved reliefs, and stunning examples.

Lalibela

Lalibela - In the morning, choose between two options: Embark on a mule-assisted hike to Mount Asheton, home to a 13th-century rock-hewn monastery with breathtaking views of the town; - OR - Drive to Yemrehanna Kristos, a stunning church located in a shallow cave, predating the Lalibela churches. The drive to Yemrehanna also offers a glimpse of the rural countryside and villages of the Ethiopian highlands. After either morning activity, continue exploring Lalibela’s churches in the afternoon. Later, partake in a traditional coffee ceremony and learn how to bake injera, a staple food in Ethiopia.

Fly to Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa - Fly to Addis Ababa with Ethiopian Airlines. Visit either the Ethnographic Museum or the National Museum, which houses the 3.18 million-year-old skeleton “Lucy.” Optional souvenir shopping in the afternoon. Enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant featuring dancers and musicians representing the country’s diverse ethnic groups. Transfer to the airport for late-night departure if necessary. (B, L).
