• Wonchi Crater Lake | ወንጭ ሀይቅ - Embark on a delightful day trip to the northern Crater Lake Wenchi. Enjoy a 5-6 hour hike (or riding tour) through the picturesque countryside. Descend to the crater lake and cross it by boat. On a small island, visit a monastery and church. From the opposite side of the lake, journey back through a charming green valley with numerous clear water springs and small streams. The path leads past water-powered corn mills, still in use today for processing teff, a local grain. Return to Addis Ababa in the late afternoon.

Ambo is renowned for its mineral water, bottled just outside the town, and is reportedly the most popular brand in Ethiopia. Nearby attractions include Mount Wenchi to the south with its crater lake, and the Guder and Huluka Falls. Ambo also hosts a research station of the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, established in 1977, focusing on protecting major crops in Ethiopia. The town’s market day is Saturday.
