Begin your day with a 155-kilometer drive west of Addis Ababa. Wenchi Crater Lake is nestled at approximately 3000 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level in the crater of an extinct volcano in the Oromia region.
After paying the entrance and parking fees and hiring the mandatory guide at the office, drive uphill for a kilometer to reach the starting point. You can choose to hike the 4 km to the lakeshore independently or descend on horseback. The downhill journey is adorned with diverse greenery on the hillsides and the lake’s surface. After an hour and passing a couple of villages, a field opens up to the shore and a small dock. Enjoy activities such as mule riding, hiking, and a boat trip.
