- Garden of Heroes - The tour begins at Ancient Plevrona, where visitors can experience the area’s untamed beauty. Ancient Plevrona thrived during the Mycenaean period and participated in the Trojan War by sending 40 ships. The original town was destroyed in 233 B.C. by Demetrius II and was later rebuilt in a new location that is now accessible to the public.
At this remarkable archaeological site, visitors can explore a massive, natural 6-meter tall stone tank, part of the marketplace, the ancient road, and a stunning ancient theater offering a panoramic view of the sea to the west of Messolonghi. A unique feature of the theater is its construction next to the wall, utilizing a tower for its functions.
- Oiniades - Ancient Oiniades was a port town on the west bank of the Achelous River. It was one of the most significant towns in Ancient Acarnania, now known as Aitoloacarnania.
This port was crucial on the route to Corfu and frequently changed alliances throughout history. Initially part of the Peloponnesian League, it joined the Delian League in 424 BC. During the Hellenistic period, Oiniades allied with the Aetolians until 218 BC when Philip V declared it free. From 211-189 BC, during the Roman-Macedonian wars, the city returned to Aetolian control. Although it lost strategic importance in Roman times, it remained inhabited into the 3rd century AD, as evidenced by coin discoveries.
- Ligovitsiou - Above Lake Ozero or Galitzas, on a hill east of the hill where the ruins of the Ancient Fortress of the divers are found, stands the Ligovitsi Monastery, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Its exterior is fortuitous, with the Katholikon at the center, featuring a three-aisled inscribed cruciform with a dome. The three aisles share a common pitched roof, interrupted by another transverse. An octagonal dome rises at the intersection of the cross arms. Along the walls, there are several cells with hollow roofs. The semicircular tower on the northeastern wall of the Catholic is marked with the date 1737, highlighting the monastery’s rich history.
- Missolonghi - The tour will visit the town of Messolongion and its castle, where visitors can learn about the heroic Exodus of Messolonghi against the Ottomans. This event, which cost many Greek lives, became a pivotal moment in the subsequent struggle for independence.
