Mitti attar is a unique fragrance capturing the scent of earth after the first rain, distilled in Kannauj for centuries and unmatched elsewhere. Kannauj has been the perfume capital of India for over a millennium, with attar artisans employing the same copper still methods as the Mughal court perfumers of the 16th century. This tour offers an exclusive look into a family-operated perfumery, where visitors can observe live attar distillation—rose petals are placed in copper stills, sandalwood oil is collected drop by drop, and the air is filled with a rich, layered aroma. Producing rose attar requires 15 days of continuous distillation to yield a small amount of oil, which is why Parisian perfumers pay a premium for it. The tour concludes with a lunch at the royal palace of the family that owns the perfumery. A private car from Agra, an expert guide, and a traditional palace lunch are included. 5 Senses Tours is recognized by the Department of Tourism and has received the Outlook Responsible Tourism Award and the Tripadvisor Travellers Choice Award.
