She was a Muslim Persian princess, originally named Arjumand Banu Begum, and he was the son of Mughal Emperor Jehangir and grandson of Akbar the Great. Shah Jahan met Mumtaz at the age of 14 and fell in love with her. They married five years later, in 1612.
• Agra Fort - Agra Fort was constructed in 1573 during the reign of Akbar, one of the greatest Mughal Emperors. The construction involved over 4,000 workers and took eight years to complete. Recognizing the strategic importance of its location, Akbar built the fort to serve as the primary residence of the Mughals. It remained the main residence of the Mughal emperors until 1638. The fort contains many impressive structures, including the Jahangir Mahal, Khas Mahal, Diwan-i-Khass, Diwan-i-Am, Machchhi Bhawan, and Moti Masjid. In 1638, the Mughal capital moved from Agra to Delhi, and the fort lost its status as the main residence. Located just 2.5 kilometers from the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort is often described as a walled city and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, it is a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the globe.
• Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah - Known as the ‘Baby Taj’, this monument is considered the inspiration for the Taj Mahal. The Tomb of Itimad-Ud-Daulah features intricate marble lattice screens and exquisite carvings, showcasing a more delicate artistry. It was the first Mughal structure made of marble, commissioned by Nur Jahan, the mother of Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal. This was the first of many tombs constructed along the banks of the River Yamuna.
