This weekend, embrace the rain and explore the indoor adventures and cultural escapes that Ahungalla has to offer.
Start your day with the Madu River Safari(Madu River Safari), available from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. This early morning adventure takes you through the enchanting mangrove forests of the Madu River, where you can witness a diverse array of wildlife in their natural habitat. The rain adds a mystical touch to the experience, as the droplets dance on the river’s surface and the lush greenery glistens in the morning light. As you glide through the mangrove tunnels, you’ll visit Cinnamon Island and the Kothduwa Temple, gaining insight into Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage. A recent review from December 2024 captures the essence of this experience:
“I had an amazing time on the Madu River Safari at Balapitiya organized by Look Lanka Tours! The experience was truly unique and gave us a wonderful glimpse into the natural beauty and wildlife of Sri Lanka. The boat ride along the Madu River was peaceful and scenic, surrounded by lush mangroves and the sounds of nature. We also got to visit small islands and observe local villages, which made the experience even more special.” (Reviewed at: 2024-12-29)
Cultural Immersion in Bentota

The rain-soaked landscapes provide a serene backdrop as you explore the Bentota River and its surrounding biodiversity.
The highlight of the tour is the Kande Viharaya Temple, where a towering statue of Buddha sits majestically atop a hill. The temple, with its 300-year-old Bodhi Tree and ancient relics, offers a tranquil escape from the rain. A review from February 2025 highlights the unforgettable experiences of this tour:
“This was one of our favourite things to do. We went with a small local company. Our tok tok driver took us there and it was just the two of us on a boat travelling through the mangroves. Thetr didn’t seem like there was a lot at first but then we saw alligator baby, alligators and Kingfisher, Monitor lizards, white frogs, green frogs and to top it all the most priceless thing was the monkeys. They all come out of the trees and took food from our hands with their babies. just couldn’t buy the experiences you’ve got to go and see it yourself.” (Reviewed at: 2025-02-03)
A Culinary and Sensory Journey
No cultural exploration is complete without indulging in the local cuisine. The Bentota Village Tour includes a local lunch, offering a taste of Sri Lanka’s culinary delights. As you savor the flavors, the rain outside creates a cozy ambiance, perfect for reflecting on the day’s adventures.
The tour also includes a visit to a tea plantation and factory, where you can learn about the intricate process of tea production. The aroma of freshly brewed tea mingles with the earthy scent of rain, creating a sensory experience that lingers long after the tour ends. A review from July 2023 captures the essence of this culinary journey:
“Fantastic! Highly Recommend - Where to begin! From start to finish it was wonderful, Sam organised everything for us and Dinesh our driver was so kind and sweet and waited for us at each stop. We started with a River Safari where we saw crocodiles, monkeys (with one peeing on my sister, a memory that will last forever), birds, lizards and more. We then went to a gem museum and from there went for a delicious lunch! The food was the best we have had since being here. After lunch we went to see the Sea Turtle Conservation which was something we will remember forever. Lastly we went to a Tea Factory where we learnt so much abut tea and the making of it.” (Reviewed at: 2023-07-29)
