Aamazing and breathtaking archaeological site. - Morgantina is the most amazing archaeological site I have visited. What an incredible treasure. It is an entire metropolis, PRE-Greek (!) with layers of occupation from as early as thousands of years BC. Anything comparable in scale (eg Chichen Itza, Machu pichu are many thousands of years older. Even the Acropolis and the Roman Forum are much later (and so crowded and chaotic). The geographic setting is wondrous, and gave me the same feeling I had visiting the Oracle of Delphi in Greece. We were immensely lucky to have Phillippa as our guide. She is so knowledgeable, kind, charming, & interesting! she made it all come alive for us. She also took us to the archaeological museum in Aidone to see some outstanding sculptures and artifacts from Morgantina. And she walked us thru Villa Romana— an immense Roman villa that is a fascinating historical record. She is super fun, super knowledgable, and made everything soooo easy for us. Lunch together was also a highlight. She used to be a teacher so she really knows how to make learning fun, with everything organized and running smoothly. I was on a crazy tight schedule, and she kept me to it. Our day with her was so special and we will treasure it always.

One of the Greatest Archaeological Sites - Morgantina is the most amazing archaeological site I have visited. It is an entire ancient Greek city! Not a single temple, but an entire metropolis, with layers of occupation and culture, so well preserved. And so stunning. Anything comparable in scale— Chichen Itza, Machu Pichu, Chaco Canyon, Etc— are relatively recent. Morgantina’s earliest occupation was 1000 BC! Even the Acropolis is not as old, or complete. The geographic site is so gorgeous, it reminded me of the Oracle of Delphi in its spectacular beauty. We were immensely lucky to have Philippa as our guide. She is incredibly knowledgable, made it all come to life. She also took us to the archeological museum in Aidone which has some of Morgantina’s amazing sculptures and artifacts, and Villa Romana del Casale. She is the highlight of our whole trip. I had a crazy schedule, and needed to pack a detailed 8 hour tour in a few hours— and she did it! The week before we did a guided tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum which had been disappointing. But Phillippa was amazing, a gift, and we were incredibly fortunate to have had that time with her.

A special day in the heart of a Sicily that is unknown to most people - Visit accompanied by a hiking group of 26 people, from Tuscany, Piedmont and Romagna. Zagara Palermo excellent guide for narrative and content, both at the Morgantina site and at the Aidone museum. Fun, full and stimulating day for the whole group. From guide to guide: in addition to trying to return with another group, I will recommend Zagara to anyone considering visiting the Morgantina-Villa del Casale area
