Habitat is the main attraction. - The cable car takes approximately four to five minutes to get up the steep hills quite quickly. There are free treks of various lengths and you can enjoy a pleasant view of Georgetown from Penang Hill. There are many notable features in the hills, but they all cost extra.

Amazing views - Amazing views from the top of the mountain & the ride took less than 5 mins. Not knowing what to visit, we decided last minute to attend here. However we couldn’t get tickets on the net and thus, we just turned up in spec around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. Luckily it was pretty quiet and we were into the train within 10 mins of buying our tickets. We bought the “normal” ticket of RM40 but you can also get a no queues ticket at RM80. There are 2 trains going up and down constantly so, as said, we didn’t have to wait too long either way. Train was very modern and the views going up at quite cool. We went to the back of the train going up and got some nice videos of the ride. Overall well worth the visit and there’s plenty of vendors at the top selling food, drinks and some keep sakes too!

Penang Hill Night Visit Review - We visited Penang Hill close to its closing time, and although the weather was foggy, it turned out to be one of the best decisions of our trip. The mist added a mysterious, serene vibe to the surroundings, and with only a few people around, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. There were no crowds, no noise—just quiet views, cool air, and peaceful walks. It was like having an exclusive nighttime pass to one of Penang’s top attractions. The lights twinkling from the city below peeked through the fog, creating a dreamy atmosphere. If you’re not a fan of big crowds and don’t mind a little fog, visiting Penang Hill in the evening is definitely worth it. It's a completely different, more intimate experience. 🌁✨ Also, the staff from the ticketing counter to inside the hill and the train driver are absolutely accommodating.

Exciting uphill ride - My first ride on a funicular tram as most of my rides uphill is by cable car. I am quite skeptical but the ride went smoothly even for people like me who has height phobia😀 The view at Penang hill is really scenic and the weather is also cooling 😀

Good - The stations is well organised. There are lots of places eat at the station. The views from penang hill are enjoyable. Buggies can be hired after the food court which gave a nice tour.

Overflow on weekends - Were also on the Penang Hill railway within a short tip on Penang. At the weekend, many people had probably thought of the same thing. But the entry and exit situation is well organized and so you can get up and down the mountain quickly. On the mountain you are compensated with a magnificent view over the city.

A great day out, but buy Express Lane tickets! - It wasn't the best weather for our visit, but at least it stayed dry until we were headed back down! We enjoyed the funicular train and we saw great views anyway. There was a wonderful hilltop restaurant called David Brown's, and we had a lovely walk at The Habitat (ticket needed, but worth it) with the canopy walkways and the Biosphere Reserve where you can get even better views of Georgetown below. We saw lots of macaques, langurs and birds, plus a colugo during our walk through the rainforest. It was much quieter in the reserve too, possibly as many people didn't want to pay the entry fee. My biggest tip is to go early (or late for sunset and night-time views) and spend a little extra to get Express Lane tickets for the funicular railway. When we visited, the queuing time for the standard ticket was 3 hours, but we only queued for a few minutes as the trains run regularly.

Worth a look, doesn’t cost a fortune. - Yeah it was ok to fill in a few hours and the ride up was good and views spectacular…but once at the top it seemed a bit run down and a lot of the stalls and eateries were closed ( at least the day we went up they were ). Still not expensive if you get a Grab taxi, so worth a look. Get the tickets on the app and get express.

Nice but no more! - We went there on a weekday morning and there was no waiting (which is apparently rare). We therefore have a price for the “normal lane” ticket and that was enough. The view upstairs is nice but not amazing either. Entry to The Habitat is not included (60RM). In short, quite mixed opinion overall. It’s not really a Penang must for me. On the other hand, do not miss the nearby Kek Lok Si Temple which is a pure (and free!) wonder.

This is a waste of time - We did not enjoy our Penang Hill experience at all. It was so crowded that they stopped selling the express lane tickets (luckily a ticket counter lady took pity on us and sold us the express lane tickets). Yes, there was shorter line but you would still have to wait a bit when it's crowded (and the place was absolutely mobbed when we were there and it was a weekday). Then, when the funicular arrived, it was absolute chaos, everyone was rushing to get on, and they kept packing people onto it until there's no more room to even stand, let along sit. Reminded me of rush hour subway in NYC. Once we got on the hill, the temperature was a bit cooler, but the view was not that good since there was perpetual haze in the sky when we were there. All in all, not something I would recommend.
