The tour begins in Akureyri, with complimentary pickup and drop-off available from hotels, the harbor, or the airport. The journey starts with a visit to the former herring village of Hjalteyri, offering a nostalgic glimpse 50 years into the past. Participants will visit the local farmer’s market, Vellir, located in an authentic Icelandic farming community in Svarfaðardalur. In Siglufjörður, the tour includes a stop at the award-winning Herring Era Museum, where visitors can explore the boats, workers’ living quarters, and factory areas of this remarkable museum.
There will be time to explore the town of Siglufjörður before returning to Akureyri. Travel time is included in the overall tour duration.
