  After a stroll through the museum, visitors can explore the village of Siglufjörður independently. The quaint village boasts picturesque views, historic houses, and a delightful bakery.

The Arctic Coastline slow drive tour takes travelers along a scenic coastal road, featuring stunning sea cliffs, quaint old fishing villages, a local farmer’s market, and the charming town of Siglufjörður. Siglufjörður was the primary herring hub in Iceland during the “Herring years.” In the early 20th century, workers flocked to the area to capitalize on this vibrant period.

The tour begins in Akureyri, with complimentary pickup and drop-off available from hotels, the harbor, or the airport. The journey starts with a visit to the former herring village of Hjalteyri, offering a nostalgic glimpse 50 years into the past. Participants will visit the local farmer’s market, Vellir, located in an authentic Icelandic farming community in Svarfaðardalur. In Siglufjörður, the tour includes a stop at the award-winning Herring Era Museum, where visitors can explore the boats, workers’ living quarters, and factory areas of this remarkable museum.

There will be time to explore the town of Siglufjörður before returning to Akureyri. Travel time is included in the overall tour duration.
