• Hrossaborg - Visit the explosion crater Hrossaborgir, which spans 500 meters in diameter. Enjoy time to walk, take photos, and ascend to the ring for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This location was also a filming site for the movie “Oblivion” starring Tom Cruise.
• Herðubreið - Pause at Herðubreið mountain, known as the queen of Icelandic mountains. Walk through a lava field and take a rest stop while learning about the story of the outlaw Fjalla Eyvinur.
• Gljúfrasmiður (=Canyon Builder) (on Jökulsá á Fjöllum) - Visit the glacial river and waterfall to witness the formidable power of nature. Observe how water has sculpted the landscape, leaving behind a canyon waterfall.
• Drekagil - Take a break for rest and food, and enjoy a walk into the dragon ravine to see a waterfall nestled at its end.
• Vikraborgir Car Park - Begin your walk to Askja from this lava field.
• Viti Crater - Stop to admire the view and, if conditions permit, enjoy a swim. Visitors have time to explore and walk down to Lake Askja.
• Vatnajokull National Park - Travel through sections of the national park, with several stops within its boundaries.
• Vatnajokull Glacier - Witness the Vatnajokull Glacier while traveling through the park.
• Lake Askja - Hike to the magnificent Askja and observe how the second caldera has transformed into a stunning lake.

This 4x4 adventure, guided by an expert, commences from your pick-up point in North Iceland, usually either Akureyri or Lake Myvatn. We traverse through breathtaking sceneries of glacial rivers, mountains, and lava fields, venturing deep into the highlands to explore the spectacular Askja volcanic area. We take a stop at the Hrossborgir explosion crater, the filming location for Oblivion, and the Gljúfrasmiður ‘canyon builder’ Waterfall. Next, we proceed to Herðubreið, a tabletop volcano nestled at the base of the picturesque Herðubreiðarlindir Springs, touted as one of the most striking wilderness spots in Iceland. We also explore the ethereal Drekagil or ‘Dragon’s Gully’. Finally, the tour’s centerpiece rests at the majestic Askja Caldera in the Dyngjufjoll Mountains - a 50 km2 subsidence caldera birthed from an eruption that caused the ceiling of the central volcano’s magma chamber to sink. Within the caldera lies Víti crater, a popular spot for summer swimming if conditions allow.
