- Al Hazm Castle - After exploring the Wadi, a visit to Al Hazm Castle is a must. Situated in the town of Al Hazm in the Wilayat of Rustaq in the Al Batinah region, it is conveniently close to Wadi Al Hoqain. This impressive military fortress showcases traditional Omani defensive features, including a massive wooden gate, secret escape tunnels, dungeons, cannon towers, and slots on the upper floors. Above the main entrance, there are troughs designed to pour boiling oil or date syrup on attackers.
Constructed by Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Yarubi, son of Imam Saif bin Sultan, in 1711 AD, Al Hazm Castle became his capital when he relocated from Rustaq. It also houses his tomb. The Ministry of Heritage & Culture restored the castle in 1996. Architecturally, the fort is notable for its ceilings, which lack timber and feature round arches supported by columns. The walls are impressively thick, with none less than three meters wide.
