Standing at 187 meters (614 feet), it held the title of the tallest structure in Egypt for 37 years until 1998, when it was overtaken by the Suez Canal overhead powerline crossing. It was also the tallest structure in North Africa for 21 years until 1982, when the Nador transmitter in Morocco surpassed it. Additionally, it was the tallest structure in Africa for one year until 1962, when the Sentech Tower in South Africa took over.
- Qasr El Nil Bridge - The Qasr el Nil Bridge, originally known as the Khedive Ismail Bridge (Egyptian Arabic: Asr el Nil Bridge), is a historic swing bridge constructed in 1931. It replaced the first bridge to span the Nile River in central Cairo, Egypt. This bridge connects Tahrir Square in Downtown Cairo on the east bank of the river to the southern end of Gezira/Zamalek Island. At both the east and west approaches of the bridge, there are four large bronze lion statues, which are late 19th-century creations by Henri Alfred Jacquemart, a renowned French sculptor and animalier.
- Sixth of October Bridge - The 6th October Bridge (Arabic: كوبري 6 أكتوبر, Kubri 6(sadis) uktubar) is an elevated highway situated in central Cairo, Egypt. This 20.5-kilometer (12.7-mile) bridge and causeway crosses the Nile twice, extending from the west bank suburbs, through Gezira Island, to Downtown Cairo, and further connecting the city to other highways leading to the Cairo International Airport in the east. The bridge is named in honor of ‘The Crossing,’ marking the commencement of the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
- Zamalek (Gezira Island) - Zamalek (Arabic: الزمالك pronounced [ez.zæˈmæːlek], al zamalek) is a district (ward) within the West District (hayy gharb) in the Western Area of Cairo, Egypt. It is a prosperous man-made island, geologically part of the west bank of the Nile River. The bahr al-a’ma (Blind Canal) was cut during the latter half of the 19th Century to separate it from the west bank proper. The northern third of the island has been developed into a residential area, housing 14,946 people as per the 2017 census. The southern two-thirds are primarily sports grounds and public gardens, providing a lush green space in the heart of Cairo. The island is connected to the river banks by four bridges: the Qasr El Nil Bridge, the Galaa Bridge, the 15 May Bridge, and the 6th October Bridge.
- Cairo Opera House - The Cairo Opera House was officially opened on 10 October 1988. The funding for this complex was a generous gift from Japan to Egypt, following President Hosni Mubarak’s visit to Japan in April 1983. Construction commenced in May 1985 and was completed over three years. In October 1988, President Mubarak and Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, the younger brother of the Japanese Emperor, inaugurated the National Cultural Centre Cairo Opera House. This marked the first occasion for Japan to present a Kabuki show, a traditional popular drama featuring singing and dancing, in Africa or the Arab World.
