Muscat-Sinkhole-Fins Beach-Wadi Shab–Sur-Ras Al Hadd
Bimmah Sinkhole - The tour begins in Muscat in the morning, heading towards Ras Al Hadd. The first stop is Bimmah Sinkhole, where swimming is an option. This water-filled depression, a sinkhole in the limestone of eastern Muscat Governorate in Oman, features a lake with turquoise waters. It measures 50 m by 70 m and is approximately 20 m deep, located 600 m from the sea, between Dibab and Bimmah Village. The sinkhole was formed by the collapse of the surface layer due to the dissolution of the underlying limestone. To preserve it, the local municipality has developed a park around it.
Fins Beach - From the Sinkhole, the tour proceeds to Fins Beach, also known as White Sands Beach. This location offers a stunning panorama of white sands and a pebbly beach, with sparkling turquoise waters and a refreshing breeze.
Wadi Shab - After Fins Beach, the journey continues to Wadi Shab, a vast canyon gorge lined with palm trees. It showcases the power of water descending from the mountains. A 35 to 40-minute hike through the canyon (walking shoes or trainers and swimming shoes are recommended) leads to crystal-clear water pools. Visitors can swim through the warm waters from pool to pool, eventually reaching the last pool. Here, an opening among the large rocks allows swimming into a breathtaking crevice cave with a small waterfall inside. Sunlight filters in, turning the water a beautiful turquoise blue, while water cascades down one side of the cave from the Wadi beyond.
Sur - The tour then continues to the city of Sur, home to the renowned Arabian Dhow Factory, where traditional wooden Dhows are constructed. In the old part of Sur, visitors can see houses with wooden doors and windows.
Al Hadd - The journey proceeds to Ras Al Hadd, with check-in at the hotel/resort in the evening. After a buffet dinner, guests are taken to the turtle sanctuary at Ras Al Jinz for a guided night tour on the beach under the stars. There is a high chance of witnessing Oman’s great sea turtles coming ashore to nest and lay eggs. With luck, baby turtles hatching from nests may also be seen.
Ras Al Hadd-Wadi Bani Khalid-Wahiba Sands
Wadi Bani Khalid - The morning begins with a trip to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s largest and most beautiful Wadis. A short 10-minute walk leads to sparkling water pools 9 meters deep, where visitors can swim, sunbathe, and relax in the scenic Wadi Canyons.
Wahiba Sands - From Wadi Bani Khalid, the tour continues to the desert camp in Wahiba Sands, also known as Al Sharqiya Sands. This spectacular desert spans 12,500 square kilometers and is named after the Bani Wahiba tribe. It stretches 180 km north to south and 80 km east to west. Guests can relax at the camp or enjoy an adventurous 4x4 drive on the sand dunes with an experienced guide. The day concludes with a stunning desert sunset viewed from a large sand dune, followed by dinner at the camp.
Wahiba Sands-Al Mudhaireb-Ibra-Zukait Tower Tombs-Birkat Al Moz-Nizwa
Ibra - From Al Mudhaireb, the journey continues to Ibra, where the old part of the town, nearly 1000 years old, can be explored. Built from mud and limestone, the village is not entirely abandoned, with some residents still living there.
Zukait Tombs - En route to Nizwa, a stop is made at the cylindrical tombs in the village of Zukait, dating back to the third millennium BC. Located on a hilltop in the Al Dakhiliyah region, these tombs are made of mountain rock stacked in a distinctive beehive shape.
Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - The journey continues to Birkat Al Moz, featuring a large Falaj system that supplies water to date palms and vegetables for many orchards. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and a walk around the old part of the village is worthwhile.
Nizwa - From Birkat Al Moz, the tour proceeds to Nizwa, the old capital of Oman. Arrival is in the late afternoon, and after hotel check-in, guests have free leisure time for the rest of the day.
Nizwa Market (Souq) and Fort-Misfath Al Abreen-Al Hamra-Jabal Shams (Grand Canyon)
Nizwa Souk - The day begins with a visit to Nizwa Souq, where a wide variety of vendors offer goods in the streets. Items include vegetables, dates, pottery, jewelry, handicrafts, Omani sweets (Halawa), spices, dates, and souvenirs, all sold in authentic old market halls. The Friday cattle market is particularly interesting, with locals from nearby villages selling goats, cattle, sheep, and chickens in a lively open marketplace.
Nizwa Fort Oman - Adjacent to the Souq is Nizwa Fortress, now a museum offering splendid views of the ancient town and surrounding mountains. Visitors can explore the impressive fortress, its many rooms, passages, and towers. The fort is an architectural testament to the economic and military achievements of the early Yoruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. It was a military stronghold designed to withstand even the strongest attacks, with traps laid along corridors to deter intruders.
Misfat al Abreyeen - From Nizwa, the tour heads to Misfat Al Abreyeen, a picturesque village on a steep slope at the foot of Jebel Shams. It consists of old homes and narrow streets, with a falaj system for many orchards, date palms, and vegetables. A walk around the village is recommended, followed by a visit to the ancient town of Al Hamra.
Jabal Shams - From Al Hamra, the tour ascends to Jebel Shams mountain, known as the Grand Canyon of Oman. This mountain road offers an adventurous off-road experience and fantastic views. The canyon view, at 2000 meters, is a perfect spot for photos. After a short drive to the resort, guests can enjoy the stunning sunset.
Grand Canyon-Balad Sayt-Snake Canyon-Wadi Bani Awf-Nakhal Fort- Muscat
Bald Sayt - In the morning, the tour descends the mountain on the east side into Wadi Bani Awf. This mountain road offers an exciting off-road experience with fantastic views of dramatic canyons and Wadis. The route winds down several kilometers before connecting with Wadi Bani Awf, passing several villages, including the beautiful Balad Sayt, surrounded by mountains. Upon reaching the valley, the tour passes impressive Wadi Canyons (Snake Canyon) and continues through the Wadi, passing numerous small villages.
Nakhal Fort - The journey continues to Nakhal, where visitors can explore the beautiful Nakhal Fortress. Situated at the foothills of the mountains in a charming town with extensive date palm plantations, this magnificent 1500-year-old fortress rises from the mountain rock, towering above the ancient village. It has witnessed many battles and is filled with hidden escape routes and secret passages. Visitors can stroll inside the restored fortress and visit rooms decorated in the original old style. The view from the top over the mountains and green date plantations is outstanding.
