In 1914, more than 41,000 servicemen and women departed from Albany to participate in World War I. For many, this would be their final farewell to home. Today, this very site hosts the state-of-the-art, award-winning National Anzac Centre, which employs multimedia, interactive technology, and historical artifacts to forge a profound personal connection with the past and honor those who served.
Through traditional museum displays and highly interactive multimedia content, visitors take on the identity of one of 32 real servicemen or women and follow their journey through the Great War: from recruitment, training, and embarkation, to life aboard the convoys, the battles at Gallipoli, the Middle East, and the Western Front. Finally, for those fortunate enough to survive, visitors will witness their return home and the challenges they encountered in readjusting to civilian life.
