Qaitbay Citadel - Sultan Qaitbey constructed this charming fortress in the 14th century to protect Alexandria from the Ottoman Empire’s advances. Although the Ottomans eventually seized Egypt in 1512, the fortress remains, strategically positioned on a narrow strip of land extending into Alexandria’s harbor from the corniche.

Fort Qaitbey - The Citadel of Qaitbay is a 15th-century defensive fortress located on the Mediterranean coast in Alexandria, Egypt. Built between 1477 and 1479 AD by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa’it Bay, the Citadel is positioned on the eastern side of the northern tip of Pharos Island at the entrance of the Eastern Harbour.

Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - The Arabic name translates to “the mound of potshards,” referring to the broken dishes and plates that marked the area before the tombs were discovered below. This extensive complex of elaborately decorated tombs dates back to the Roman Era and is considered one of the “Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages.”
-
Bibliotheca Alexandria - Located on the Alexandrian Corniche, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a vast and impressive example of modern 21st-century architecture, yet it evokes something much older. The library and cultural center were inaugurated in 2002 as part of a significant project to honor Alexandria’s legacy as an ancient hub of global learning and culture. (Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays)
