• Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - At 7:00 am, the operator will pick up guests from their hotel and proceed directly to Alexandria. The journey will take approximately two and a half hours via highway to reach the starting point at “Kom El Shoqafa” in Alexandria. Kom El Shoqafa houses a collection of tombs, statues, and archaeological artifacts linked to the Pharaonic funeral mortuary cults, as well as Hellenistic and early Imperial Roman influences. Over time, many features of Kom El Shoqafa’s catacombs have merged Roman, Greek, and Egyptian cultural elements; some statues exhibit Egyptian style but are adorned in Roman attire and hairstyles, while others share a similar style. A circular staircase leads down into the tombs carved into the bedrock during the reign of the Antonine emperors (2nd century AD). From the 2nd to the 4th centuries, the site served as a burial chamber before being rediscovered in 1900.
• Pompey’s Pillar - This will be the secondary attraction. The name “Pompey’s Pillar” is misleading. Gaius Pompey, a Roman general and consul, was a rival of Julius Caesar during a civil war and was assassinated by a Ptolemaic pharaoh in 48 BC while fleeing to Alexandria. This solitary column, situated on a rocky hilltop in the heart of Alexandria, is unrelated to him. Crusaders mistakenly believed his grave was marked by a 100-foot (30-meter) red Aswan granite pillar, which is how this story originated. The pillar is a triumphal monument erected for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in 300 AD. During the visit, the site will be admired from the outside only, making it an ideal stop without requiring entrance fees. The true significance of this archaeological site lies in what preceded the pillar: the Serapeum, Alexandria’s acropolis.
• Fort Qaitbey - This will be the third stop. Located in Alexandria, Egypt, on the Mediterranean Sea coast, stands the 15th-century defensive fortress known as the Citadel of Qaitbay or the Fort of Qaitbay. It was established in 1477 AD (882 AH) by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa’it Bay. The Citadel is positioned at the entrance of the Eastern Harbour on the eastern edge of Pharos Island’s northern tip.
• Bibliotheca Alexandrina - The tour will include a visit to the world’s largest library: “Bibliotheca Alexandrina,” which currently holds 8 million books. Guests can explore its open court to view the statues of Ptolemy the First and Alexander the Great, both discovered nearby underwater. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore “The President Saddat Museum” and the “Alexandria Museum” of Impressions. Please note that the Alexandria Library is closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and legal holidays. A ticket is required to access the reading section. Finally, the tour will return to the starting location, taking approximately 2.5 hours on the highway.
