Alexandria, give it a go - Firstly, I will start by saying we booked our day to start with a 9.00 am pick up. As we were visiting during Ramadan, this pick up time was not suitable because of the earlier closing times at the various tour stops. We were contacted by our guide to advise an earlier pick up of 7.30, this wasn't an issue for us, but I think the time choices on the booking page should make allowance for this. We chose the private tour, meaning we didn't have to wait outside other hotels to pick up other tourists, which of course would have added more time to our day, on an already lengthy trip. Our driver got on with the journey in typical Egyptian style ( Horns / Phones and tiny gaps to squeeze through, all something you have to get used to) when driving in many countries around the world. So, we had a toilet break on the way. Arriving in Alexandria we needed to get to the Catacombs and meet up with Mig (the name he gives us to make life easier) our guide. We didn't include entry tickets as we were not sure of our fitness following an injury prior to our trip, but Mig ran us through the purchase of the tickets from the machine in no time at all. Mig was a very nice tour guide, with a lot of knowledge about the various sites we visited. He gave us lots of information, after which he enquired if we had any questions. We visited the Catacombs first, followed by the Amphitheatre, then the Library. Then we went for lunch which was included in our trip (without drinks) however we hadn't had any bottled water so Mig got us a large bottle of water with our meal. This was a seafood restaurant and the fish looked beautiful, but for some strange reason we chose to have the chicken (our mistake) Our last visit was to the Citadel. Mig is an extremely nice young man with a pleasant and calming demeaner. He does not rush you around and gives you spare time to go off on your own and spread your legs a little. If you don't catch what he says, just ask him to repeat it and he will be happy to. He is patient and very courteous, We would recommend him as your choice of guide if you were given the opportunity to request one. So now we head home with our driver. No need for a toilet stop but I'm sure he would had accommodated us, if we had asked. We have to admit, at our age it is not so comfortable sitting in a car for such a long drive nowadays. So if you have a chance to request a larger / plusher car for your comfort (even if you need to pay a little extra for it) I suggest you do. So all in all, what a brilliant day out. So when you break it down, the cost of this trip (a driver and car, all day. A guide for 3/4 hours. A meal in a seafood beach restaurant. A choice of which entry tickets you want to buy / which are also cheap) it's nothing short of an absolute bargain. It's a long day on the road, but if you're staying in Cairo and you want to get a taste of Alexandria, give it a go. AND DON'T FORGET THE TIP FOR THE DRIVER AND THE GUIDE

Delightful Day in Alexandria. - If you’re looking for a seamless, enlightening, and genuinely fun way to see Alexandria from Cairo, look no further. Our day trip was absolutely perfect, thanks to the dream team of Sherif and Rewan. The Highlights * The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa: A fascinating (and slightly eerie) look at how different cultures blended their burial traditions. Rewan’s storytelling really brought the history to life here. * Pompey’s Pillar: An impressive sight with a great backstory that we wouldn’t have fully appreciated without a guide. * The Roman Theater: It’s incredibly well-preserved and offers a great perspective on ancient social life in the city. * The Bibliotheca Alexandrina: A stunning modern contrast to the ancient sites. It’s a must-see for the architecture alone. Why This Team Rocks Rewan (Our Guide): Her knowledge is encyclopedic, but she delivers it with such passion and clarity that it never feels like a lecture. She knew all the best spots for photos and managed our time perfectly so we never felt rushed. Sherif (Our Driver): Cairo to Alexandria traffic is no joke, but Sherif handled it like a total pro. The car was spotless, the AC was ice-cold, and we felt completely safe and relaxed throughout the entire journey. Final Verdict The history of Alexandria is layered and complex; having experts like Sherif and Rewan to navigate the city and the stories made all the difference. This wasn’t just a tour; it was an experience. Highly recommended!

This is not a private tour and bring your own lunch - We booked this as a Private tour, however this is not the case. The transfers to and from Alexandria are Private but the touring aspect when going to the local attractions are part of a group. So this is a bit misleading. I would recommend you buy your own lunch as well. We chose to include the lunch and it was pretty basic unfortunately. A piece of fish on a plate with a sprinkle of grated carrot. Also ended a lot closer to dinner time by the time we ate. Our guide was knowledgeable but rushed us from place to place and kept telling us that we should have had an earlier start to the day, as we chose the 9am start option. As the touring company are the experts, they shouldn’t offer such a “late” starting option then. Also didn’t appreciate being told to give a 5 star review by our guide whilst eating. He wanted us to complete it then and there and show him that we all completed a 5 star review. I was the only one in the group who refused to do so after he insisted on several occasions. I would suggest to shop around before you book your day trip to Alexandria.
