Arrival in Alexandria: A Warm Welcome

Our journey to Alexandria began with a comfortable drive from Cairo, and as we approached the city, the anticipation of exploring its ancient wonders grew. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our guide, Alaa Gaber, whose warmth and enthusiasm set the tone for the day. Our first stop was the legendary Library of Alexandria, or rather, its modern counterpart, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Next, we ventured to the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, a site that beautifully encapsulates Alexandria’s multicultural heritage. Descending into the depths of these ancient burial chambers, we were surrounded by a fascinating blend of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman influences. Our journey continued to Pompey’s Pillar, a towering monument that stands as a testament to the city’s Roman past. Despite its misleading name, the pillar was erected in honor of Emperor Diocletian. A Perfect Conclusion by the Sea

The Citadel of Qaitbay, built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, was our next destination.
