Incredible tour of Alexandria's history - Pamela was an incredible guide who shared so many important insights about the community and its history. Her storytelling capabilities really immerse you in the context of what was happening at the time and the resilience of enslaved people in Alexandria. I walked away from this tour with a lot of new information and resources to continue learning.

Great stories and historical knowledge - John was a knowledgeable tour guide and friendly. He had a little speaker so we could hear him well over traffic. Great to hear stories of the enslaved people who lived in Alexandria and how they navigated life in colonial America. A lot of times that’s an afterthought on a more general tour so we greatly appreciated the subject matter. We are local residents and enjoyed hearing the unknown stories of streets we walk and drive by all the time!

The history lesson you wish you had in school - Pamela Neal, my tour guide, is a natural storyteller. Her commentary was a combination history lesson and architectural tour that was more riveting than I imagined it would be. Some of the names mentioned were new to me while others, George and Martha Washington, for example, were revealed to be flawed but interesting historical figures. Ms Neal clearly enjoyed relaying the stories about the significance of the manumitted and freed citizens to the development of Alexandria.
I will take this tour again.

A Walk Through History - As newcomers to the city, we wanted to familiarize ourselves with its history; the good and the bad, and this tour succeeded admirably. Confronting truths, sharing triumphs and keeping stories alive, it gave us such inspiration.
Thank you for braving the heat and diving into history with us!

Best guided tour I have ever taken. - I travelled from Ireland to take this tour. My guide, Pamela Neal, has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Alexandria history and the people and places involved in the struggles of enslaved people and those who worked for emancipation and struggled for freedom. I had some knowledge of slavery and the issues in USA but had so many questions answered by Pamela. I learned so much. Take this tour and learn about how it was and how it is. It will also make you think about where we all need to be.
This is a couple of hours that may change how you think for the rest of your life. I have already ordered more books to build on what I learned. Absolutely recommend this tour and can’t thank Pamela enough. Everyone needs to know this History.

Great tour! Highly recommend! - My mom and I really enjoyed our tour. We learned a lot and saw so much. Our tour guide, Pamela, was very personable and knowledgeable. We saw so much of Alexandria and learned so much about it's role in both the slave trade and in manumission and the Underground Railroad. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about these subjects and see Alexandria in a different, more complex light. Our tickets were only $15 and more than worth the price and further reading recommendations!
