What goes up must come down - We had an amazing and crazy adventure with João. We got dropped off at the Mirador (where our van broke just before the trail) on a sunny morning and started on some steep single track trail. João was patient with our limited mountain biking experience. After 45min we ended up in a small town where we stopped for espresso and forged on. Luckily the paths widened out and we took on hilly dirt roads that undulated through forests. We made it to aljezur where we stopped for lunch at an outdoor cafe with traditional bachalou and breads in the church square. With more confidence, we walked up to the castle where we had a panoramic view of the Algarve. The last ~20km or so involved hilly dirt roads all the way back to carrapateira as we raced against the sun. We made it back minutes after sunset and shared celebratory oranges from the sweet trees nearby. A wonderful exploration day.
