- Waagplein - The Weighing House, the central building on Waag square, has served as both a chapel and a weighing house. Today, it houses the Dutch Cheese Museum and the Tourist Information Office.
- Kapelkerk - The Chapel Church, a medieval church located in Alkmaar’s old town on Laat street, was originally the site of the Catholic St. John’s Chapel, which is why it is called “Chapel Church.”
- Alkmaar City Hall - Constructed between 1509 and 1520 in the Gothic style, the Town Hall of Alkmaar features a corner tower with an openwork pear-shaped spire and is eleven bays wide.
- Grote Sint Laurenskerk - The Great St. Laurens Church, previously known as the Great or St. Laurens Church, is situated on Koorstraat in the city center. It is a stone-clad brick cross-basilica with a seven-sided choir closure, built between 1470 and 1518.
- Clarissenbolwerk - Following Alkmaar’s alignment with the Dutch Revolt in 1572, the fortifications were promptly modernized. The original fortifications, dating from 1525-1550, included brick walls on the city’s west side and brick-clad earthen ramparts. Various locations featured half-round towers for artillery placement. It soon became evident that these fortifications were inadequate against modern artillery, leading military engineers to conclude that large bastions and substantial earthen ramparts were necessary. The Clarissenbolwerk, one of the bastions, was completed just before the Siege of Alkmaar in 1573.
