Aktau Mountains - Participants will embark on a guided 7 km hike through the chalk formations of the Aktau Mountains, one of Altyn-Emel’s most renowned landscapes. The trail winds through colorful, layered hills that were formed millions of years ago.
During the hike, there will be opportunities to capture photos, admire unique geological patterns, and appreciate the tranquility and vastness of this surreal, desert-like environment. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and use sun protection.
Katutau Mountain - At the Katutau Mountains, a short pause is scheduled to explore this intriguing area shaped by ancient volcanic activity. The distinctive rock formations, sculpted by wind and time, provide excellent photo opportunities and insights into the region’s geological past.
This brief stop allows visitors to wander among the carved stones, stretch their legs, and absorb the serene, otherworldly landscape before resuming the journey.

2 Days in Altyn-Emel: an unforgettable adventure to a place where the sands sing and the mountains conceal silent secrets from millions of years ago. The tour kicks off in Almaty. In comfortable SUV vehicles, participants will travel to Altyn-Emel National Park — one of Kazakhstan’s most extraordinary natural wonders. The first stop is the legendary 700-year-old Willow, a living relic steeped in ancient legends. Next, enjoy a scenic trek through the Martian-like Aktau Mountains. These chalky ridges, seemingly crafted for cinema, offer surreal landscapes and unforgettable experiences. Then, proceed to the volcanic Katutau Mountains, where stone has solidified in waves and curves like sculptures. In the evening, enjoy warmth and coziness in the village of Basshi: a homemade dinner, campfire games, and a sky full of stars. On the second day, visit the Singing Dune. This towering sand dune truly “sings” as you walk on it, allowing you to hear the silence of the desert. After the walk, return to Basshi for lunch, and then journey back to Almaty.
