There’s ample opportunity to get close, greet them, and capture some memorable photos.

After spending time with the dogs, everyone gathers inside the gamme, a traditional Sámi-style hut, where the true warmth of the experience begins. Dinner features a robust Arctic stew, the kind of meal that has sustained travelers across Finnmark for centuries. As you dine, the guide shares tales from the historic postal routes that once linked Alta to inland communities — routes that, from the 1700s onwards, kept northern Europe connected with the rest of the world, through deep winter and some of the most challenging landscapes imaginable.

Once dinner concludes, it’s time to venture back outside. The lodge is situated far from any light pollution, and if the Northern Lights make an appearance, you’ll have a prime view — with green and purple ribbons gracefully dancing across the Arctic sky.
