Amazing experience, stunning surroundings and great for disability access. - We stayed in the Alton Towers Hotel and visited the park for 2 days. We had a fabulous time. The hotel staff were wonderful and extremely helpful. They went above and beyond to make our trip special. The Garden restaurant food was nice. The fish and chips were lovely and the portion was large and filling. However, the burger, although nice, was a much smaller portion and left you still hungry.
The 9am entry was a tad deceiving as the rides don't open until 10am. The forst day we waoted around for an hour after going at 9. However, having learned our lesson on the second day we went in at 9:55 and didn't have to queue at all to enter. We were on our first ride, Nemesis Reborn, in 10 minutes.
We applied for an access pass before going as our adult son had ASD. He has never wanted to try a theme park before due to anxiety in crowds and around new people. The access pass was amazing as it allowed us to virtually queue instead of standing in the queues he was able to access almost all rides easily.
The weather was stunning and it actually felt like we were abroad. The grounds and gardens were beautiful. The park is more than a theme park, it really is an area of beauty. At some points you would hardly know you were in a theme park.
We would definitely visit again.

Would highly rate for families with young children. - This being our second time visiting the park we can’t rate it enough- our 7 and 2 year olds had the most AMAZING 2 days in the park.
We of course spend a lot of our time at the CBeebies section which was just fab and queues weren't bad at all- with only the Post mans Pat ride being closed due to renovations.
Staff were all generally happy and helpful whenever we encountered them throughout the park and at the rides - acknowledging our children and making them feel heard/seen whenever entering new rides.
We also purchased the £18 refill cup which we found to be super useful particularly as the days we went were during a heatwave - my only complaint with the cups is that there’s no refill station in CBeebies land.
We also discovered this time that there are Free water refill stations which was super helpful for the children.
We especially enjoyed our visit to Sharkbait Reef- which not only was a welcome break from the sun/hustle & bustle but such a well facilitated space.
One thing that we were a little disappointed in was that both times we visited the driving school - the driving licence stall was closed which especially my older child would have loved to have purchased.
The theme park itself is so well maintained and especially clean which makes it such a pleasant experience.
Thanks gain for a great time :)

Lovely woodland lodge stay - Great couple of days in the park, there were quite large queues as there was quite a few school visits but didn't spoil the trip. Stopped in a woodland lodge check in really easy, after reading reviews with people moaning the rooms were too hot was a little worried as it was quite a warm day but when we opened the day the room was fairly cool. Room was very comfortable but as so many people say bunk beds not the biggest and very noisy everytime someone moved but they slept OK in there. We ate at flambo jambos for all you can eat buffet, food was good plenty of choice and although a bit expensive still worth the money and to be honest everywhere at alton is expensive for food. We had breakfast at the secret garden, as we were told the crooked spoon was closed even though it was open, there was a decent choice but food was only OK, now queues for food either day. We had previously stayed in a pod but definately think it's worth paying the extra for the Lodge just for not having to walk across a field to go toilet or have a shower.

The great the good and the bad. - There is no doubting the park is first class, with a few world class rides. This was my first visit in 8 years and with older kids where I didn’t need to spend my time in cebeebies land.
Nemesis, Smiler and 13 all stand out as world class coasters for the family. The park is well kept, for the most part clean and tidy and overall a great site. It’s affordable, as 2 day tickets go in the grand scheme of things. Its value for money in terms of the price of the ticket. The aquarium was a good addition and better than I would have expected. (Or remembered)
Having visited the Orlando parks in 2024, I see a huge difference in the commitment of staff. You can tell Alton towers are trying to replicate the efficiency of ride staff from the parks, but they fail in comparison. By this I mean how fast they are pushing guests through the rides. I feel if I compare wait times between them it was far less than in america. This is finer detail, I appreciate, but I noticed it. A more lacklustre approach by staff ( not all but most).
Not so good. Lots of closures of rides. Wicker man closed consistently throughout our 2 days ( although I did manage to get on in the end) nemesis, smiler, galactica, spinball, all had closures throughout the 2 days and we felt our selves jumping from each end of the park trying to join a queue for a working ride. Bad on day 1, better on day 2 and luckily we had the day 2 to complete everything. Worst offenders - galactica and wicker man. Rita was closed but it seemed to be a planned closure. A closure was ever present on the app.
My biggest complaint as always is the price of a bottle of water as a basis for the price of food. £4 for a water is the base line price of all things consumable that we have all somehow turned a blind eye to and have now accepted this is acceptable prices to charge customers in a captive area. It’s robbery. £10 meal deal for drink, chocolate and crisps, wait for it, for schools. It’s not just Alton Towers, it’s cinemas, airports, festivals, hotels. Be more prepared than I was and take all your food with you. As long as those shareholders get their dividends you’ll be paying above the market value by 250%

Great time but Gluten free options are scarce! - We stayed at Splash Landings hotel for 3 nights. We did the Waterpark on day 1 and then 2 days in the actual park.
We had a great time but as with some of the other reviews we experienced lots of rides being closed throughout the day which is disappointing. The weather was amazing though and as a family we had lots of fun.
I do have one complaint and that’s the food options. My daughter is Celiac and has to have a gluten free diet. The only options for her were fries or a baked potato, no pizza or pasta options which I feel for a company the size of Merlin is ridiculous! We did take her own snacks in with us and I am glad we did as a lot of the sweet snacks she couldn’t have either, even the pick n mix and cables had Gluten in them.
The hotel restaurant had more options for her so we ate there twice but we were £120 each time for food and drinks so it’s pretty expensive!

Mixed feelings - We took our grandchildren who had a fantastic time in the park. However the same cannot be said for the hotel especially the restaurant. Not a lot of choice on the menu and very expensive for what you got. Also guests from the other hotels on the park had to use our restaurant as theirs were closed. Restaurant staff a bit hit and miss. The second night our granddaughter waited 30 mins for an ice cream which didn’t appear until we complained. I don’t think we will be visiting again. I am also still waiting for the refundable deposits that I had to pay for the keys to our rooms.

Treat? More like torture - So many rides were closed. It was so disappointing. The app would indicate if a ride had opened, we rushed to it only to find it closed again, or a 90minute queue. There was no shade provided for people queuing and with temperatures of 29c, this was a great concern. Instead of having fun on the rides, we spent most of our time running across the park trying to find a ride that had now opened. The sky ride gondolas were also not working. This was meant to be a family treat. Instead it was more like torture.
