The Journey to the Skies
As a professional athlete turned travel writer, I’ve experienced my fair share of adrenaline-pumping adventures. But when I heard about the Skydiving Algarve experience in Alvor, I knew I had to add it to my list. My fiancée and I decided to make it a birthday celebration to remember, and what better way to do that than by jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet?
Our journey began in Lisbon, where we were picked up and whisked away to Cascais. From there, a short flight took us to Portimão, the heart of the Algarve’s skydiving scene. The transfer was seamless, and before we knew it, we were at the Alvor Airfield, ready to take on the skies. The anticipation was palpable, and the energy was infectious as we mingled with fellow thrill-seekers at the airport café.
The Leap of Faith
After a brief but thorough instruction session, we were suited up and ready to go. The staff, especially our instructor João Lopes, were incredibly professional and made sure we felt comfortable and excited for the jump. As we ascended to our jump height, the view of the Algarve coastline was breathtaking, a stunning backdrop for what was about to be the most exhilarating experience of our lives.

Touching Down and Reflecting
Once the parachute deployed, we floated gently back to earth, taking in the stunning views of the Portimão coast. The landing was smooth, and as we touched down, a sense of accomplishment washed over us. Back at the main location, we relived the experience through videos of our jumps, each frame capturing the joy and thrill of the adventure.
Despite a bit of waiting time for our return flight, the experience was nothing short of spectacular.
