Amman – Salt (Experience local) Amman “King Abdullah I Mosque (Blue Mosque)”
Al Salt - After breakfast, depart for the city of As-Salt, located just north of Amman. This charming city boasts a proud history and distinctive yellow sandstone architecture. During the tour, visitors will experience rural life by learning to prepare seasonal jams, Jameed, or other products depending on the season.
Tour of the city of Salt via Al-Hammam
The oldest and most frequented street in As-Salt, named after a Turkish bath, is a narrow pedestrian path winding around the hill’s contours, flanked by 150-year-old traditional Ottoman stone architecture.
King Abdullah Mosque - The King Abdullah I Mosque is a prominent landmark in Amman, Jordan, renowned for its impressive Islamic architecture, featuring intricate designs and towering minarets. The mosque holds significant cultural importance as a place of worship and a symbol of Jordanian heritage.
Amman - Jerash - Amman City Tour - Amman
Jerash Ruins - After breakfast, head to the archaeological site of Jerash, one of the best-preserved sites in the Middle East. Buried for centuries under sand before being rediscovered and restored over the past 70 years, ancient Gerasa offers a unique testament to the grandeur and urban planning of the Romans in the Middle East. Visitors can still see well-preserved cobbled streets, magnificent temples, and spacious squares.
The Citadel - Return to Amman to explore the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom. Nestled between the eastern desert and the Jordan Valley, Amman is home to 4.5 million residents. Built entirely of beige-white limestone, the city is a cluster of cream-colored cubes, golden in the sunlight. From the top of the Citadel, enjoy a superb view of the lower city. Before descending, a visit to the Archaeological Museum, the Temple of Hercules, and the Umayyad Palace is a must. Followed by a brief tour of the lower city, which has preserved a beautiful
Amman – King’s Highway – Madaba – Nebo – Kerak – Petra
Madaba Mosaic Map - After breakfast at the hotel, depart along the King’s Highway to visit Madaba. Known as the city of mosaics, both in churches and homes, their high technicality and artistic value demonstrate that this Byzantine bishopric, with 14 churches, was home to an extraordinary school of mosaicists. Their art reached its peak in the 5th and 6th centuries. At the Church of St. George in Madaba, visitors will see the “Map of Palestine,” uncovered in 1898 during the church’s construction. This mid-6th-century mosaic, slightly altered, depicts the geography of the Byzantine Near East. Originally measuring 25 meters by 5, it was composed of two million tesserae.
Mount Nebo - Then visit Mount Nebo, 10 km northwest of Madaba - “And Moses went up from the plains of Moab to the top of Mount Nebo, to Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho…” Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to your descendants.” I have allowed you to see it with your eyes, but you cannot go beyond. So Moses, the servant of God, died in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. (Deuteronomy, 34:1, 4-5). Mount Nebo, the presumed burial site of Moses, stands at 840 meters high. Since the beginning of the Christian era, it has become a universal pilgrimage site.
Karak Castle - Continue to the fortress of Kerak - The Wadi Kerak, a valley below the city, was one of the main access routes to Palestine. In 1115, Baldwin I founded the lordship of Montreal. Fulk the Younger of Anjou, a baron of France and the third Frankish ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem (1131-1144), entrusted this fief to his cupbearer Payen le Bouteiller, who in 1142 built the fortress of Kerak and made it his residence. In 1176, Renaud de Châtillon, former lord of Antioch, received it following his second marriage. Only after the Crusader disaster at Hattin (1187), when Jerusalem was conquered by Muslims and Renaud was executed, did Kerak become a residence in 1189. But Saladin had to besiege the fortress defended by Renaud’s widow for more than a year before it finally surrendered. Continue to Petra via the desert road, dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
Petra “The Rose City”
Petra - Enjoy a delightful day in Petra, starting with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, where guests can prepare to explore. Immerse in the rich history and stunning architecture of Petra, admiring its ancient wonders. In the afternoon, adventures continue through the captivating landscapes of Petra. At the end of the day, retreat to the comfort of the hotel for a delicious dinner, perhaps opting for a luxurious dining experience.
Petra – Little Petra – Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum Protected Area - After breakfast at the hotel, head to Little Petra, then travel to Wadi Rum - The Wadi Rum Desert - If Petra is the result of human and natural collaboration, the cliffs, peaks, and valleys of Wadi Rum owe their “serene beauty” and “overwhelming grandeur” to themselves, as described by T. E. Lawrence. The Wadi Rum “vast, echoing, and God-like” is such that “only landscapes in children’s dreams have this grandeur and silence.” This desolate site was indeed one of the high points of the Great Arab Revolt, magnified by director David Lean in one of the most impressive scenes of his Lawrence of Arabia. Tour in a local 4X4 pick-up in the desert for about an hour and a half. Dinner and overnight in Bedouin tents.
Wadi Rum – Dead Sea – Amman
Dead Sea Region - Breakfast at the camp, then depart for the shores of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, at 427 feet below sea level. Then enjoy free time for swimming. The Dead Sea is believed to be the site of five biblical cities: Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Zoar. It has been proven that the climate and elements (sun, water, mud, and air) provide a unique combination of natural conditions capable of alleviating a wide range of chronic ailments such as dermatological issues (psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, psoriatic arthritis, etc.), respiratory problems (e.g., asthma), and many other conditions like arthritis, circulatory problems, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease, and eye disorders. Enjoy the strange yet pleasant experience of “floating” on the water’s surface. The buoyancy is due to the salt content being nine times higher than that of normal seawater. Return to Amman.
