- Jerash Ruins - Discover some of Jordan’s historical gems on this full-day private tour to Jerash, Ajloun, and Umm Qais from Amman.
Travel to Jerash and immerse yourself in its rich history as you explore its colonnaded streets, hilltop temples, amphitheater, public squares, plazas, and temples. Jerash is one of the best-preserved classical sites; a thriving Greek and Roman city. Founded by Alexander the Great around 331 BC, it later became one of the great Decapolis cities of the east. It is also a Bronze Age settlement where you can find the Temple of Artemis, the Forum, the oval plaza, and Hadrian’s Arch. Discover the city’s history, its rise with a Greek federation, and its experiences under Muslim and Christian rule, eventually falling during the Crusades.
- Ajlun Castle (Qala’at ar-Rabad) - Continue to Ajloun and explore Ajloun Castle; a 12th-century fortress constructed by Saladin’s forces against the Crusaders. It was built to control the three major passages into northwest Jordan. This hilltop structure is a remarkable example of medieval Arab-Islamic military architecture. The towers, chambers, galleries, and staircases that are part of the town, along with the stunning scenery surrounding the nearby hills, will surely captivate you. Climb the tower to soak in the historical ambiance and enjoy the picturesque views of the Jordan Valley to the Dead Sea.
- Archaeological Museum of Umm Qais - Later, head to Umm Qais; one of the most breathtaking Greco-Roman cities. Learn about the ruins of the Decapolis city of Gadara, now known as Umm Qais. This site is remarkable due to the contrast between the Roman ruins and the abandoned Ottoman-era village. Enjoy the stunning views from an extraordinary vantage point, with vistas of three countries: Jordan, Syria, and the Israel and Palestinian Territories. According to the Bible, it is the site of the famous miracle of the Gadarene swine, where Jesus cast demons out of two men into a herd of pigs.
Finally, meet up with your driver and return to Amman, where your tour concludes with a drop-off at any central location of your choice.
