Jallianwala Bagh - Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar is a significant memorial honoring the tragic massacre of hundreds of unarmed civilians by British troops in 1919. This historical site serves as a solemn reminder of India’s fight for independence, featuring preserved bullet marks and a moving museum that offers a deep insight into the country’s challenging past.
Hall Bazaar - Amritsar provides a lively shopping experience, renowned for its bustling markets filled with traditional Punjabi clothing, vibrant Phulkari embroidery, exquisite handicrafts, and richly woven textiles like the famous Amritsari juttis (embroidered shoes). The city’s energetic bazaars, such as Hall Bazaar and Lawrence Road, also offer aromatic spices and local snacks like papad and pickles, making shopping in Amritsar a delightful cultural experience.
Mandir Mata Lal Devi - Mata Lal Devi Temple, also known as Pujya Mata Ji, is one of the most revered sites in Amritsar.
The temple is dedicated to Lal Devi, a saint from the 20th century. Mata Lal Devi was born in the Kasoor district of Lahore, Pakistan. She moved to Amritsar after the partition and attained nirvana in 1994. Throughout her life, Mata Lal Devi consumed only milk and fruit.
The sanctuary is particularly significant for women wishing to start families and is considered a smaller version of Jammu’s famous Vaishno Devi shrine.
The Partition Museum - The Partition Museum in Amritsar is a significant institution dedicated to preserving the history and personal stories of the Partition of India in 1947. Situated near the Golden Temple, it showcases photographs, documents, and personal belongings, providing visitors with a profound understanding of the experiences of those affected by this historic event. Through its exhibits and educational initiatives, the museum serves as a vital resource for understanding the human impact of the Partition and promoting peace and reconciliation.
