• Golden Temple - Guests will be collected from their hotel or a designated location in the morning to begin their Amritsar tour. The journey starts at the renowned Golden Temple, a small part of the vast Harmandir Sahib complex, revered by Sikhs. The spiritual heart is the tank encircling the radiant main shrine—the Amrit Sarovar, from which Amritsar derives its name, dug in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru, Ram Das. Surrounded by a marble walkway, the tank is believed to possess healing properties, attracting pilgrims worldwide to bathe in its holy waters. A visit to a gurdwara is incomplete without experiencing a langar (community kitchen/meal), and the scale of the community meal at the Golden Temple is truly remarkable. Numerous people line up to receive clean trays and cutlery, proceeding to the two-level langar hall. All meals are prepared, cooked, and served by volunteers known as Kar-Sevaks, available from early morning until late at night.
• Jallianwala Bagh - Following this, visit the historic Jallianwala Bagh, a short walk from Harmandir Sahib, infamous for the British massacre of innocent people. The gardens are lush, well-maintained, and vibrant. Visitors include joggers and walkers, making it hard to imagine this beautiful place as the site of the 1919 tragedy. After visiting, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant or dhaba (Veg/Non-Veg options available).
• Wagah Border - At 2:30 pm, depart for the Wagah border, 35 km from Amritsar, to witness the Beating Retreat Ceremony with gate closure events and Indian and Pakistani troops. Experience the BSF and Pakistani Rangers marching towards the gates, a must-see while in Amritsar. From their respective sides, the BSF and Pakistani Rangers march towards the gates. The troops greet each other after the gates open and begin to lower the flags (no gates open nowadays). The flags are carefully folded and returned. The ceremony culminates with the soldiers returning to the border line for the final handshake (no handshake) and the bugle’s sound marking the ceremony’s end. As the ceremony reaches its peak, shouts of Jai Hind and Pakistan Zindabad fill the air. After the ceremony, guests will be escorted back to their hotel, a designated location, or dropped off within the city center or at the airport.
