Excellent canal on an open top barge - A great insight to the history of the canals and buildings of Amsterdam with our guide Jan (with the beard). Informative and humorous.

Top - It was great, very nice. Niels, the boat driver was very fun and taught us a lot about the history of Amsterdam and its specifics. Besides, it was nice that day!

Great option of all the canal boat services! - We took a tour with Jan with the beard. We had a great time. It was a good size open boat. Not too big and not tiny. It was very comfortable and roomy. It was easy to move around to take pics from both sides of the boat without worrying about tipping it over. Jan was very informative and took us on a different route from another tour we took earlier in the week which we appreciated. It was good to go through other canals and get a better idea of how the canal ring is connected. The onboard drinks were reasonably priced and the self service/honor system was very nice as well. Mokumboat was a great value and being right in front of Central Station made it easy to get to and easy to get anywhere when it was over. I highly recommend them and will use them again when I go back.

A highlight - We booked the 4pm standard canal cruise on 9 September. When we arrived, it was pouring down. We were the only two on the boat. They still did the tour. We had two tour guides and the skipper to ourselves. All three were just really nice people. Halfway through the sun came out. A highlight of our Amsterdam visit.

Super trip in a small group! - Jan (with the Beard!) was a super guide. Funny and informative. The boat was lovely, very clean and smart, very comfortable with cushioned seats and extra scatter cushions. A very family friendly trip on a small, open boat, in a small group. Highly recommend.

Poor, inadequate "guide" made canal cruise mainly pointless. - The guide spoke maybe 5or6 times to relate, mainly, obvious information. We passed a number of obvious landmark buildings that passed without comment. Very minor info given on Amsterdam/canals. If the guide had not been there i feel i would have had a similar experience. When he did speak it was without enthusiasm - like he was regurgitating script he was loathed to do. He spoke from the far end of the boat making it hard to hear him - and he made no effort to speak up. It felt as if he would rather not be there. At best he needs more training and to understand his role and learn more and impart more or maybe he is just not suited to this job. I felt that the views and boat ride were adequate but I saw most of the views from walking around anyway. But gain no new knowledge or insight. There are many canal boat companies and what guide you get is luck of the draw - sadly I got the very short straw.
