- Portuguese Synagogue - Located in the heart of the historic Jewish neighborhood, the Portuguese Synagogue was the largest synagogue in the world when constructed in the 17th century. It remains a place of worship for Jews today, and when not in use for services, it welcomes visitors.
Everyone is invited, regardless of their faith. Visiting the Portuguese Synagogue is a breathtaking experience, with its 17th-century ambiance preserved. Instead of electric lights, the synagogue is illuminated by hundreds of candles.
- National Holocaust Museum - The National Holocaust Museum narrates the story of the Nazi persecution and murder of the Jews in the Netherlands. Before World War II, Jews and non-Jews coexisted with equal rights. However, during the war, the Nazis and their collaborators killed approximately six million Jews across Europe, known as the Holocaust or Shoah.
This is the first and only museum dedicated to the history of the persecution of Jews throughout the Netherlands. It explores the daily life of Jews before World War II, their experiences of liberation, and how the Holocaust is remembered in national culture.
- National Holocaust Museum - Once a theatre, Hollandsche Schouwburg was seized by the Nazis during World War II. From July 1942, Jews ordered to report for deportation were gathered here. Tens of thousands passed through these doors, spending hours, days, or even weeks before being sent to concentration and extermination camps. Today, it stands as a memorial for all Holocaust victims.
