Local Food Experience - It is a small group tour. The portions are generous and there is sightseeing in between the eateries (restaurants, bakeries, ice cream parlors). Elizabeth was our tour guide and she was born nearby so she was able to share he local experiences with us. The pickup spot was only a short walk from our hotel so we didn't need to spend extra money and waste time getting back and forth. We did this tour on our last day in Alaska. If you have the chance, I would do this tour on the first day because we would have visited these restaurants instead of the ones recommended by the cruise. Also, do not expect to sample native Alaskan (Tlingit, Athabacan, Aleut) food. The food is representative of the area going back about 100 years to today. I don't think the native Alaskans made salmonberry muffins or ate rockfish tacos.

Meandering monologue - I was very on the fence about writing this review because I generally don't unless it is glowing or there was something pretty egregiously wrong. This was just meh. Ultimately I decided that I should because if I read my review I would not have done the tour. First off, this is an extremely expensive activity at over $125 per person. Second, the food may be very "iconic" Anchorage, but without much context (which we generally were not provided except for the first stop), it was a piece of kinda nasty fried chicken, a nothing special macaron I could get anywhere, ice cream in a strip mall and a decent fish taco in a very odd little restaurant/theater. We drove around the airport looking for bears, watched the float planes take off and stared at the water for about 15 minutes looking for whales. We heard a lot of stories about growing up in Alaska, but nothing I'd pay money to hear. It felt like the tour your teenage nephew would give you if his parents made him. No research, no context, just a kind of meandering monologue. I ultimately would not recommend it.
