Visitors often hope for a glimpse of Dall sheep and Beluga whales, with some attributing sightings to “offerings to the Sheep and Whale Gods.” While it’s a matter of chance, every effort will be made to align your visit with these magnificent creatures of land and sea.

• Portage Glacier - In Portage Valley, you can view Explorer Glacier, Middle Glacier, and Byron Glacier, and enjoy a walk through a rainforest. Afterwards, grab a snack or meal at Portage Day Lodge for the return trip to Anchorage.

• Turnagain Gallery - This art gallery, owned by master log cabin builder Greg and his wife Wendy, a local jewelry artist, features their son Jordon Anderson, a professional wood carver. He often creates life-sized wood carvings of local wildlife on-site. The gallery is filled with exquisite sculptures, unique jewelry, captivating paintings, and photographic prints.

• Potter Marsh - Offering nearly panoramic views of Turnagain Arm, Potter Marsh is a scenic and easily accessible wildlife viewing area in Anchorage. The boardwalk over Rabbit Creek is an excellent spot to observe spawning chinook, coho, or humpback salmon from May to August, depending on the species. Moose are also frequent visitors year-round.
