• Porto Judeu - Among the well-known legends explaining the name, it is said that Jácome de Bruges, the first captain of the donatário, landed here on January 1, driven by bad weather and the need for shelter. As the harbor inlet is small and offers limited protection, and because at that time anything unfavorable was termed “Jew,” the anchorage was thus named Porto Judeu.
• Salga Bay - The Battle of Salga was a conflict fought on July 25, 1581, in Salga Bay, São Sebastião, within the former municipality of Vila de São Sebastião, Terceira, Azores, between a Spanish landing force and Portuguese forces who, in the name of D. António I, defended the island against a personal union with Spain.
• Farol da Ponta das Contendas - This area contains remnants of a Military Fort built to protect the coast from invasions by other maritime powers in the 1500s and 1600s. It is part of an extensive network of forts around Terceira Island, constructed to safeguard valuable shipments of gold, silver, spices, and other goods arriving from Asia, Africa, and the Americas, primarily from Brazil.
• Igreja Matriz de Sao Sebastiao - The Church of São Sebastião, established in the fifteenth century, has undergone numerous transformations over the years. Initially Gothic, it was expanded in the sixteenth century with Manueline chapels. Further expansions in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries included the sacristy and baptistery. In 1789, a fire destroyed its interior, and reconstruction in 1795 introduced a Baroque style. In the twentieth century, starting in 1964, restoration efforts began to recover original elements. The 1812 inventory revealed a rich collection of silver ornaments, though few remain today. The church is a significant testament to the evolution of religious architecture in the Azores.
• Porto Martins Natural Pools - Porto Martins Natural Pool: A natural pool formed from dark volcanic stone. Nearby, a pedestrian area allows for seaside walks, offering views of ancient fortifications that were part of Terceira Island’s defensive system.
• Praia da Vitoria - It is the seat of the municipality of Praia da Vitória, covering an area of 162.29 km² with 21,035 residents, divided into 11 parishes. The municipality, one of two on the island, is bordered to the south and west by the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo and to the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean.
• Biscoitos - Biscoitos is a parish in the municipality of Praia da Vitória, located on the north coast. Known as Biscoitos do Porto da Cruz, it developed in the lava lands (the biscuits) around Porto da Cruz, once a significant fishing and whaling port. The lower part of the parish is a major wine-growing center in the Azores, forming a protected landscape within the Terceira Natural Park and a designated wine production area. Traditional grape varieties, especially verdelho, are cultivated here to produce liqueur white wines.
• Gruta do Natal - This extensive geological formation is a lava tube within the Natural Forest Reserve of Serra de Santa Bárbara and Mistérios Negros. It features branches in various tunnel forms, created by lava flows in different directions. A notable feature is its location largely beneath a lagoon, Lagoa do Negro.
• Algar do Carvao - A volcanic chimney, which, unlike others, is not completely obstructed. With a crater measuring 15 x 20 m, it descends 90 m to a lagoon of clear waters.
• Furnas do Enxofre - This fumarolic field consists of several outlets of volcanic gases at varying temperatures, some reaching about 95º C at the surface and approximately 130º C half a meter deep. The degassing primarily involves carbon dioxide (c. 95%), hydrogen sulphide gas, sulphur gas, hydrogen, nitrogen, methane, and others in very low proportions.
