- United States Naval Academy - On an October evening in 1907, Lieutenant James Sutton, a student at the Naval Academy, was involved in an altercation with fellow young officers. He retreated a short distance to his tent, armed with two pistols.
Sutton discharged a couple of shots before being subdued. The men later informed investigators that Sutton expressed regret for his actions and retrieved a pistol from beneath his body, shooting himself in the head.
Sutton also had an unexplained dent on one side of his skull and did not bleed from the gunshot, leading his mother to believe he was already dead or dying when the shot was fired.
Rosa Sutton claimed her son’s spirit visited her at their family home in Oregon, revealing to her that he had been murdered.
