Don’t skip this hike! - It was a very challenging hike but so worth it! If you want to experience an active volcano and challenge yourself definitely do this hike! OX was amazing, they let you rent all the clothes and supplies you need for free. Make sure you get the hiking sticks and the food was great. If you are considering getting a porter I would definitely recommend it. The hike is already so long and challenging not having to carry your 35 lbs back pack makes it much better and enjoyable.

I enjoyed the experience.... - I enjoyed the experience. Went at a good pace and the guide took good care of us. I’d recommend getting a porter and definitely poles if you plan to do fuego. If you want my honest opinion—- fuego not worth it. It felt unsafe (the wind/rain weather is intense up there plus it is a very active volcano) do your research and decide. The best views of fuego were from camp at night

Amazing! - Amazing trip. The work is worth it. Use a porter if you’re not use to hiking often and carrying 35lbs doing so. Walking sticks are a must! Sooooo worth it. Axel And Miguel are the best

Bad answers from the Guide - Don't say you give the tour in Spanish if you're going to be angry about asking to give the Spanish directions too, I didn't hire the direct tour with you so here if there was a Spanish option don't claim if you're asked to give it like this

The tour is exhausting but worth it. - All OX staff are highly qualified to provide you with a very good experience with the necessary security to perform this activity.

I can’t recommend doing... - I can’t recommend doing this tour with OX expeditions enough. Amazing experience right from the start. The gear they were able to provide was good quality, the food exceeded my expectations and the guide Henry was the best! I did both Fuego and Acatenango for sunrise and well worth the extra hiking. Views are surreal!

Incredible hike lessened by organisation issues - The hike itself was 5/5. Views of the Fuego lava explosions during the final night ascension was memorable. But I have a few problems with the organisation: 1/ Many additionnal costs: water you need to buy, snacks (wich you definitively need seing the small - and pretty awfull - first lunch sandwich), aluminium hiking sticks [100Q], park entrance [100Q]. I am baffled that these are not included in the package, it creates a sense of being a walking wallet. 2/ The food is not great, except for the last morning. The first breakfast burrito and lunch sandwich are very small and do not provide enough calories for the first part of the hike. The night pasta are just awfull with industrial, salty tomato sauce. 3/ I heard that another group started the final ascension earlier at 02:30 instead of 03:40 for us. I believe that it would have been better, to get the absolute best night views of the Fuego eruptions while at the top of the Acatenango. Otherwise the guides are nice and knowledgable, the pace is good and the atmosphere pretty chill. The camping location is nice as well.

Meh - Hike itself excellent Porters excellent Guides Horrible, derogatory comments, lack of safety concerns, seemed more concerned about their pace going up the mountain rather than safety of group members Would 100% do this hike with a different tour group Scam with exchange rate

If you are like me and need help getting up to the base camp, don't use OX Expeditions - I didn't complete the tour with OX Expeditions. The hiking was a little too much for me so I told my tour guide that I would go back down. On my way down, I saw some people going up by horse. I stopped them and asked how much they paid, and which company offers transportation by horse. I found the tour company. One of their men was going to take me up to the OX's base camp by horse. Since I had already paid OX, I thought they would let me use their campsite, but they said no. I called my tour guide a few times, but he didn’t answer my calls; another OX tour guide talked to him and told me he said no. They said their company doesn’t allow using horses. I was not asking them to take me up there by horse; someone else would. I just wanted to use the camp since I had already paid to OX. They said it's illegal to use horses. Well, there are other companies using horses, and I looked it up and didn't find anything about illegal to use horses. They said they were responsible for my safety, but they had no problem letting walking back down by myself. I knew it would be challenging to hike up there, and was going to take my time hiking up, but the tour guide said he could only wait a few minutes for me; he had other people to look after. I didn't ask if I could hike up to the base alone; but he let me walk down alone so the answer is, yes? If you are like me and need help getting up to the base camp, don't use OX Expeditions. Be careful picking the tour companies. Not all provide the same services. Know your limits and do research and pick the right company. I missed the opportunity to see the volcano; that was the reason I went to Guatemala and I was so excited and looking forward to it. I had gone up to the mountains several times using horses but I did hike up to 2 different mountains by foot on this trip. The Acatenango is more difficult so using a horse would really help. One OX tour guide said, “I signed up for hiking. That is not true; if it's just hiking, I can do that anywhere. I signed up to see the Acatenango volcano and hiking is one of the ways to get up there and if I can’t why not using horses.
