Great hike and better... - Great hike and better experience! It’s not for the weak as it was challenging walking uphill on cobblestone and mud for over an hour. Esperanza was a great host!

Good half-day trip from Antigua - Good, smooth pick-up. Nice drive to the national park, enjoyable hike to the base of the volcano. No, you do not climb to the top of the volcano! LOL. Excellent guide.

Excellent - Super fulfilled schedules, a super special excursion, even though we had a cloudy day and the volcano only showed a few seconds, the guides very attentive and good vibe.

Had a great time, tough climb, totally worth it - Had a wonderful time! We were almost the last stop of shuttle for the morning, so a bit of a wait, but comfortable ride once we got going. Stopped for coffee on the way since it was the last stop, and appreciated with early start. We're given option to rent a horse-taxi and/or a walking stick once we got to the volcano start. Price of admission to park is not included in tour, bring $100Q. The climb is med/difficult, but plenty of breaks, bring lots of water. Many scenic outlooks for photos make it worth it. Lots of time at the top to enjoy the view and cool off. First halfway thru lush greenery, 2nd half was lava rock and more slippery and dusty, the rented pole really came in handy. "Roasted" marshmallows toward the bottom of the decent, more like melted, but still fun. Very tired and sweaty at the end. There place to get refreshment at both side of hike and along the decent as well. Horses come along and are offered to people when the climb up becomes too much, the price goes down the further up you make it. Starting at $225Q then I heard half price at one point. Be aware, while English is listed as a spoken language, is minimal, announcements are all in Spanish and you have to ask the English speaking guide if you have a question to explain.

After a 1.5 hour drive... - After a 1.5 hour drive through some small local towns, the we arrived to the hike. It was moderate difficulty with changing climates. My senior parents did it with some challenge. My kids also were able to complete. Doable but tough due to altitude gain. We got unlucky with our view at the top (and very cold and windy) but still felt accomplished. Roasting marshmallows in an active volcano was a great experience too.

Great Hike - Even with clouds the hike and views are great. They have horses available if you are not a good hiker or need help. Really fun and amazing views.

The experience was very... - The experience was very good and without any problems. It's definitely worth it. In fact, the track is a little pulled, but this gives much more to the pace than to the journey itself. I understand that in order to be able to complete the route in time you need to have a faster pace and so the track ends up being more pulled than it really is.

Windy with beautiful views. - It was a scenic bus ride through winding streets. I have asthma so I took the horse up. Make sure you pay for the horse to the guide that takes you up. I paid at the beginning of the tour, too, the wrong person, and there was some confusion at the end. It was really windy at the top so I’m glad I took a windbreaker with a hood. We went for the sunset tour in the views were stunning.

Nice, but some areas need better planning. - The hike and views were great. A lot of reviews I read made it sound so easy, but its definitely not. There are options to do the trek on horseback (bring lots of cash if you want to do so) Do wear proper shoes and clothing. The tour itself was ok. We were picked up from our hotel and then made a 20 min stop to rearrange transportation and shuffle us around which gave people an opportunity to pick up coffee and snacks. A heads up this would be happening would have been great. Had booked an English guided tour, but our tour was fully in Spanish. Once on the hike, we didn't have much guidance.
