Anuradhapura to Sigiriya

Pidurangala Rock - Pidurangala is a massive rock formation located a few kilometers north of Sigiriya in Sri Lanka. It shares a fascinating history closely related to that of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Climbing to the top of Pidurangala rock is more challenging than climbing Sigiriya. Golden Temple of Dambulla - Dambulla Cave Temple is an ancient Buddhist monastery in Sri Lanka, situated 600m above the plains.
This is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka, with over 80 documented caves. The main attractions are five caves containing statues and paintings.
These five separate caves house over 150 magnificent Buddha statues and paintings, which are some of the most significant and creative religious art in Sri Lanka. The murals cover an area of 2100 square meters.
These caves are found after climbing about 350 feet up the Dambulla rock. Some caves are man-made, while others are natural, making it difficult to distinguish between them. Buddha images were first created here over 2000 years ago.

Held in Kandy town, this cultural show depicts various forms of Kandyan dancing, which was once native to the area but has now spread to different regions of the island. An area of almost 150 acres in length, perfectly wavy, its average height above sea level is about 1,540 feet. The Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya was officially founded in 1821, six years after the final occupation of the Kingdom of Kandian by the British. However, its story dates back to 1371, when King Wikramabahu III ascended the throne and kept the courtyard in Peradeniya near the Mahaweli River. This place is located less than four miles from Kandy on the Colombo Road and occupies the loop of the Mahaweli River.

Sri Lanka is the world’s fourth-largest producer of tea. The highest production of 340 million kg was recorded in 2013, while the production in 2014 was slightly reduced to 338 million kg.

Horton Plains is the highest altitude national park in Sri Lanka and was named a national park in 1988. Located about 2000 meters above sea level, Horton Plains is a great place for trekking and hiking. With a number of impressive vantage points that look out over stunning views of the park, Horton Plains is definitely well worth visiting. But if you wish to go there you have to leave at 5.30 am from your hotel and walk a circle around 9km at least on the plains. One of the most popular viewing points is here the World’s End precipice which offers up phenomenal panoramas of the surrounding areas. Nine Arches Bridge - One of the highlights in the mountain village Ella is the 30-meter high Demodara Nine Arch Bridge. With a small 30-minute walk through the jungle, you will reach a piece of beautiful architecture that is hidden between lush green tea fields. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. It is allowed to walk on the bridge and it’s one of the things you must do in Sri Lanka.

Stilt Fishermen Sri Lanka - Stilt fishing is a method of fishing unique to the island country of Sri Lanka, known as “the Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. The fishermen sit on a crossbar called a ‘petta’ tied to a vertical pole driven into the sand a few meters offshore. From this high position, the fishermen cast their line and wait until a fish comes along to be caught. Although the approach looks primitive and ancient, they are now doing this for the sake of tourist attraction.
Galle Fort - Galle Dutch Fort and City, a fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. The stone walls of the sea, widened by the Dutch, surround the fort, which is encircled by architectural car-less streets that reflect Portuguese, Dutch, and British rule. Famous buildings include an 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church. Galle Lighthouse stands on the southeastern tip of the fort.
