- Sri Maha Boodhi Temple - The Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is a historically significant sacred bo tree (Ficus religiosa) located in the Mahamewuna Garden in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It is believed to have grown from a cutting of the southern branch of the original sacred bo tree, Sri Maha Bodhi, which was destroyed during the era of Emperor Ashoka the Great at Buddha Gaya in India, where Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) achieved Enlightenment. The Buddhist nun Sangamitta Maha Theri, daughter of Indian Emperor Ashoka, brought the tree cutting to Sri Lanka in 288 BC during the reign of Sinhalese King Devanampiya Tissa. At over 2,300 years old, it is the oldest living tree planted by humans in the world.
- Vessagiriya - The Vessagiri monks resided in rock shelters that were crafted by quarrying local materials. Visitors today can see only the bare stones, as much of the rock was later removed and repurposed elsewhere.
- Isurumuniya Temple - Isurumuniya is renowned for its stone carving of a couple and the bas-relief figures etched into the rock. This carved stone was discovered in the royal pleasure garden and relocated here. Various interpretations have been proposed for these carvings.
- Ranmasu Uyana - Water was supplied to the park by Tessa Wewa and then released to the rice fields surrounding Isurumuni Vihara. Within the park are several ponds and the remnants of small structures. According to legend, it is believed that Prince Saliya met Asokamala in this garden.
- Abhayawewa - Constructed in 380 BC, the dam of the reservoir stands 10 meters high. The reservoir’s water is also collected in the Giritale and Kantalai. Currently, the reservoir covers about 255 acres. The embankment of the reservoir is approximately 5,910 feet long and 22 feet high above the sill level.
- Ruwanwelisaya - Ruwanweli Maha Seya is one of the most esteemed Buddhist stupas in Sri Lanka. Built by King Dutugamunu during his reign from 137 BCE to 119 BCE in Anuradhapura, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka, it is the most venerated by Buddhists, surpassing all other great stupas. Beyond its religious significance, it serves as a national emblem, representing a heroic mother and son, a courageous warrior king, and a united Sri Lanka. The stupa houses the largest known collection of Buddha’s relics ever placed in a dagoba on the island, making it a revered pilgrimage destination.
