- Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi - The Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, is the oldest living tree documented in world history. It is a sapling from the historic Bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Planted in 288 BCF, it is the oldest living human-planted tree with a known planting date. It was brought from Buddhagaya, India, by Ven. Sanghamitta Therini, sister of Arhant Mahinda, who introduced Buddha’s teachings to Sri Lanka.

The central temple features particularly fine mural paintings. Climb around the back to the rock summit to see the bell-shaped stupa and a pair of Buddha footprints etched into the rock.
