Dorze Village - Take a one-hour drive uphill to Chencha to explore the Dorze, a small group within the larger Omotic language family of southern Ethiopia. Formerly warriors, they have transitioned to farming and weaving for their livelihood. Their weaving skills are exceptional, making the Dorze name synonymous with high-quality woven cotton cloth. Each impressive Dorze bamboo house features a small garden surrounded by enset (false banana plantation), spice and cabbage beds, and tobacco plants, as the Dorze are avid smokers. The main house is a tall, up to twelve meters, beehive-shaped structure with an aristocratic ‘nose’ that serves as a reception area for guests, typically furnished with two benches. The spacious and airy houses have vaulted ceilings and walls covered with elegant enset thatch, forming a smooth, steep, unbroken dome.

Jinka - Murisi (Mago National Park)
Mago National Park - Take a day trip to Mago National Park to visit the Mursi settlement. The Mursi are one of Ethiopia’s more unique ethnic groups. Their homes are made of straw leaves and are quite low. The women are known for adorning their earlobes and dramatically expanded lower lips with terracotta.
Turmi - In the afternoon, drive to Turmi, home to the Hamer people. The Hamer tribe resides around Turmi and shares cultural similarities with the nearby Banna tribe and some traditions with the Kara tribe. The women have distinctive hairstyles and necklaces with specific meanings. On the way, visit the marketplace on market days: Thursday in Key Afer and Saturday in Dimeke.
Excursion to Karo
Omo Valley Ethiopia Tours with Locals - A typical excursion to the Karo tribe in the Omo Valley, Ethiopia, includes a day of immersive cultural experiences. Travelers may participate in local activities like farming or fishing, followed by a traditional meal. The program may also include interactions with community members to learn about their customs and beliefs, as well as opportunities for photography, while respecting local etiquette. The day usually ends with sunset views along the Omo River, providing a picturesque backdrop to conclude your cultural exploration.
Turmi - Visit one of the Hamer villages to learn about and experience their way of life, housing, music, coffee, and more. Attend the “Jumping of the Bulls” traditional Hamer wedding ceremony if it is taking place.
