Dorze Village - Take a one-hour drive uphill to Chencha to explore the Dorze, a small group within the vast Omotic language family of southern Ethiopia. Formerly warriors, they now focus on farming and weaving for their livelihood. Their weaving skills are exceptional, making the Dorze name synonymous with top-quality woven cotton cloth. Each remarkable Dorze bamboo house features a small garden surrounded by enset (false banana plantation), spice and cabbage beds, and tobacco plants, as the Dorze are avid smokers. The main house is a tall, up to twelve meters, beehive-shaped structure with an aristocratic ‘nose’ that serves as a reception area for guests, typically furnished with two benches. The spacious and airy houses have vaulted ceilings and walls covered with elegant enset thatch, forming a smooth, steep, unbroken dome.

The Hamer tribe resides around Turmi, sharing cultural similarities with the nearby Banna tribe and some traditions with the Kara tribe.
