Initially built in the 13th century by the rulers of Wallachia, it gained significance in the 15th century when Vlad the Impaler restored and expanded it. It functioned as a crucial military fortification. The fortress is located on a steep hill, approximately 400 meters above the Argeș River. Visitors must ascend around 1,480 steps to reach the ruins. The fortress was strategically positioned to oversee and control the surrounding region.
