The trail is mostly gentle with a few small uphill sections, following a well-preserved path above the farming fields, where local farmers can be seen engaging in their daily activities, a tradition since colonial times. If you choose to embark on this hike in the morning, it will likely be very hot, so it is advisable to wear a good hat, a long-sleeve T-shirt, and sun protection.
The hiking distance ranges from 6KM to 8KM, taking approximately 3 hours through a wonderful countryside setting.
For morning departures (8 AM), hikers have the option to be dropped off at a local restaurant known as a “Picanteria” to savor the authentic cuisine of the Arequipa region, which is considered one of the best in Peru. Characato offers excellent Picanterias (local restaurants) for lunch to satisfy your taste buds.
